Arts & Culture
Atascadero may be laid-back, but our creative side is anything but quiet. From public murals to live music to historic architecture, you’ll find art woven into the everyday here. Whether you’re gallery hopping downtown or stumbling on a fountain in the park, inspiration is always just around the corner.

Our Historic City Hall
A local icon at the heart of our city since it was built between 1914-1918, Atascadero's Historic City Hall is a must-see. Stop in any weekday to look around, or schedule a docent-led tour.
How to schedule a tour:
Docent tours are available by appointment only. Please email atascaderocolonymuseum@gmail.com or call (805) 466-8341. The Atascadero Historical Society is a volunteer-based organization and therefore, emails will most likely receive a faster response. Tours are free, but donations are welcome.

Honoring Our Heroes
Dedicated Nov. 8, 2008, the Atascadero Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial honors our military members and signifies that we will be forever proud of our veterans. The Heroes Wall and adjacent Scroll of Honor is a 70 foot, curved wall with descriptions of U.S. conflicts since WW1 and engraved names of the 231 fallen soldiers of San Luis Obispo County. The Faces of Freedom sculpture represents the selfless service of our military since the beginning of World War I through today. At the far right of the sculpture and “on point” is a figure who represents the modern day soldier “joined at the hip” to a Desert Storm soldier who, in turn, is lending aid to a stricken Vietnam hero.

Murals & Public Art
Atascadero is not afraid of a little color! Walking or driving around town, visitors are likely to spot several huge murals, in addition to those added by local businesses. Some murals have been installed as part of an ongoing program called the Equality Mural Project.
