About the zoo

The Central Coast Zoo, formerly known as the Charles Paddock Zoo, is the only zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on California’s Central Coast and the only zoo in San Luis Obispo County. Home to hundreds of species from around the world, the Zoo also cares for many animals that are part of globally managed conservation programs focused on protecting wildlife and habitats. If you want to connect with some of the world’s rarest animals in a fun, approachable setting, this is a must-see stop.

Set on five acres within the scenic Atascadero Lake Park, the Zoo is just one of many experiences to enjoy in this beautiful area. Make a full day of family-friendly fun with a walk through the Zoo, a picnic lunch, time at the playground, a stroll around the lake, or even paddle boating and fishing.
