Make a Weekend of It

The events may give you a reason to put Atascadero on the calendar, but there’s plenty to keep you here once you arrive.

Turn Fall Fest into a full weekend with breakfast downtown, a visit to the Central Coast Zoo and a walk around Atascadero Lake. Coming for Winter Wonderland or Holiday Magic? Check into your hotel, grab dinner and drinks, enjoy the festivities, then spend the next day exploring at a slower pace.

Atascadero makes it easy to build a little more into the trip, whether that means outdoor adventure, local food and wine, family fun or simply a little extra time together.

Stay Close to the Fun

With so much happening throughout fall and winter, staying overnight means you don’t have to squeeze everything into one day.

Atascadero offers a range of places to stay, from familiar hotels and comfortable inns to vacation rentals, all within easy reach of downtown Atascadero, the Central Coast Zoo, Atascadero Lake and nearby Santa Margarita.

Find More Fun Between Events

Have some time before the festivities begin? There’s no shortage of ways to fill it.

Visit the Central Coast Zoo

You don’t need a special event to spend some time with Atascadero’s wildest residents. The Central Coast Zoo is home to hundreds of animals from around the world and makes an easy addition to a family getaway, especially with Atascadero Lake Park right next door.

Get Outside

Cooler fall and winter days are a great excuse to explore Atascadero’s big backyard. Take a walk around Atascadero Lake, hit a local hiking trail or spend a little time soaking up the Central Coast scenery.

For a bigger adventure, head to Santa Margarita for Margarita Adventures, where you can zipline over historic ranch land and vineyards or choose from other outdoor experiences.

Explore Downtown Atascadero

Leave some room in the itinerary for wandering. Downtown Atascadero is home to locally owned shops, public art, restaurants and Historic City Hall, with plenty of places to pop into before or after an event.

It’s especially easy during the holidays, when so many of Atascadero’s seasonal celebrations take place right in the heart of downtown.

  • Two adults and three children stand along the shore of Atascadero Lake.
  • A person walks along a sunlit trail through an oak woodland in Atascadero.
  • An outdoor hotel pool with a pool lift, lounge seating, and accessible entry.
  • Mural featuring birds and native wildlife with the words "Nature Is for Everyone" on a building.
  • Lemur perched on a log at the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero.

Come for the Event. Stay for Atascadero.

Fall Fest. Halloween at the Zoo. Gravel rides. Holiday shopping. Twinkling lights. Train rides. Seventy tons of snow. Even a New Year’s celebration before lunchtime.

There’s a reason Atascadero has earned a reputation as the most festive neighbor on the block.

Pick the event that sounds like your kind of fun, book a place to stay and give yourself some extra time to explore. There’s always something happening around here, and your favorite neighbor is always happy to have you.
