Dedicated November 8, 2008, the Atascadero Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial honors our military members and signifies that we will be forever proud of our Veterans. The Heroes Wall and adjacent Scroll of Honor is a 70 foot, curved wall with descriptions of the US conflicts since WW1 and engraved names of the 231 fallen soldiers of San Luis Obispo County. The Faces of Freedom sculpture represents the selfless service of our military since the beginning of World War I through today’s global war on terror. At the far right of the sculpture and “on point”, is a figure that represents the modern day soldier “joined at the hip” to a Desert Storm soldier who, in turn, is lending aid to a stricken Vietnam hero.
